Your Chamber ::: Its Organization
- Your Chamber and You…
-
The Chamber of Commerce is the official voice of the broad spectrum of business, organizations and individuals in the Wainwright area. The financial support for the organization is derived from the volunteer investment of its members.
Over 200 members strong, the Wainwright & District Chamber of Commerce is affiliated with the Alberta Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce as part of a global business association, which is recognized throughout the world. In addition, many of the benefits that the Wainwright & District Chamber members enjoy are provided through these affiliations.
With the invaluable input of our board of directors, volunteers, members and numerous other stakeholders, the Wainwright & District Chamber of Commerce has become the voice of community, and one of the largest and most active Chambers of Commerce in region.
- Become Involved… IT WORKS!
- Commitment to Service
The Wainwright & District Chamber of Commerce is first and foremost a membership organization organized to promote the general welfare and prosperity of the region. The scope of our effectiveness is limited only by the commitment of our executive, directors, staff, and membership.
The Chamber membership is made up of people largely concerned with enhancing the quality of life through dedicated community service. These people join forces to build a strong central core united in their effort to accomplish common goals. Typical goals include increasing business growth and job development, building a healthy marketplace for economic stability, endorsing the free enterprise system by encouraging competition and fair play.

To make the Chamber successful takes the commitment and dedication of many hard working volunteers. As our track record shows, there are many people in our community who are willing to take on that kind of responsibility.

- Appointment and Responsibilities
of The Board of Directors -
The members elect the Board of Directors, at the Annual General Meeting held in January of each year. The Board of Directors represents over 200 members and meets monthly to discuss projects the Chamber will initiate to benefit you - the member. Throughout the year, directors carry out innumerable projects by chairing and or working on committees.
They form policy, they determine programs, approve the budget, receive and pass on committee reports and direct the everyday operations of the organization. Directors are happy to answer any inquires you may have about the Chamber. They are also available to hear your concerns and ideas. They speak in response to the initiative and subject to the will of the membership. It does not nor can it do all the thinking for the organization but it has to assume responsibility for final decisions except those where the decision has been put to a referendum, public meeting or submitted to the membership which sometimes occurs in cases where controversy exists. The scope of the Chamber’s work is limited only by the desires of its members for change.
Individual directors do not have the authority to act alone; they are one vote of many and are expected to abide by the decisions made by the Board as a whole. This legislative body is given the authority to make decisions for the people they serve. It is responsible for mobilizing resources in the community, seeing that the talents and energies of members are enlisted in appropriate committees, ensuring that program objectives are delegated to the proper committees and making sure that the scope and authority of the committees is clearly defined.
They have been given authority to act by the membership and are thus responsible to the membership who elected them.
Behind every forward-looking community there is an organization of clear-eyed, broad-versioned men and women of the Chamber of Commerce.
