The Chamber believes that economic development cannot be done in isolation and requires people in our community and other communities working together. We believe that any development that is done must improve the quality of life for everyone in our community.

The Wainwright & District Chamber of Commerce has partnerships with the Wainwright Economic Development Board & Wainwright Main Street Project. Not only do the three entities share the same office space, but also they also independently and jointly promote business activity in the area.

Our efforts have improved communication and cooperation between the various stakeholders and promoted the sharing of information and ideas.

The Chamber of Commerce advocates promoting and improving trade, commerce, tourism and the economic welfare for a better environment in the region. Working closely with the Wainwright Economic Development Board, we enhance our economy by helping established firms grow and bringing business and industry to the region.

The Wainwright Economic Development Board is a co-operative partnership between the Town and Municipal District of Wainwright.

The board consists of forward-looking, broad-visioned volunteers & community resources working together to promote, expand and enhance the economic development of the region.

The Board acts as a facilitator and resource for strategies associated with business retention and expansion; business attraction and investment; community marketing and tourism; and community development.

The work of the WEDB is facilitated & co-coordinated by Carley Herbert; Economic Development/Development Officer.

Municipal Regulations for Establishing a
Business Within Municpal District of Wainwright

The MD of Wainwright does not require businesses located within the MD of Wainwright to obtain a municipal permit or business license. It is recommended that anyone wishing to start a business contact the office with the business name and location, so that it is on file for economical and promotional activity within our area.

Any new structures located on a property in relation to a business will require a development permit.

Municipal Regulations for Establishing a
Business Within Town Limits

Unless specifically exempted, anyone conducting business within the Town of Wainwright is required to hold a valid business license. License applications are submitted to the town office (1018 - 2nd Ave., Wainwright AB T9W 1R1, 780-842-3381) and usually are processed the same day. The Licensing Officer is the approving authority for business licenses.

Re-development Incentives

Community Improvement & Consolidation (CIC) Program

In order to improve neighborhood appearances, make better use of existing infrastructure, and increase assessments, the Town offers a property tax refund to encourage redevelopment of older properties in Town. This program applies to both residential and central commercial areas.

The CIC program is reviewed and extended on a yearly basis.
