Serving the Town & MD of Wainwright & surrounding areas. Support services to families who have concerns regarding the developmental levels of their child or dependent adult or whose child has a diagnosed disability. Services include developmental assessment, short alternative care, recreational/leisure options, referrals to services such as OT/PT, and advocating services.

Family & Community Services (FCS)

Wainwright & District FCS is a joint partnership between the Villages of Irma, Chauvin, Edgerton, the Town of Wainwright, the M.D. of Wainwright, and the Province of Alberta. This partnership has been funding programs and services of a preventative nature throughout the M.D. of Wainwright since 1973.

Provides Emergency Response Units needed by individuals in Wainwright, Irma, Edgerton, Chauvin and the M.D. who are convalescent or disabled, seniors or others living independently with life threatening or chronic illness. Emergency Alert Units are available for rent or purchase from Wainwright & District FCS.

Provides information and assistance to citizens aged 65.

Residences for persons with multiple disabilities and behavioral challenges. Other programs include: the Supported Independent Living Program, Approved Homes Program (room and board, supervision, training and skill development for adults and/or seniors with developmental disabilities or mental illness), Host family (full-time and relief placement in private host homes for children with developmental/physical disabilities).

Battle River Victim Assistance

Provide victims of crime, crisis, tragedy and misfortune with both short and long term support, information and referral in an effort to minimize victimization and ensure well being. Trained Volunteer Victim Advocates assist RCMP officers with victims on a 24 hour basis responding to emergency situations to provide immediate support.

Wainwright Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC)

Promotes and facilitates community-based military family services that strengthen Canadian Forces families and communities. Help families of CF members manage the stresses associated with the unique characteristics of the military lifestyle. Enhances the quality of life in CF communities by supporting personal, family and community development. Fosters the active and meaningful participation of CF families — and in particular, civilian spouses of CF members — in the development, delivery and evaluation of military family services. Contributes to the operational effectiveness of the CF by strengthening CF families and communities. Some of what MFRC provides is listed below:
  • Personal Development & Community Integration — Welcome and Community Orientation, Information and Referral, Employment and Education Assistance, Personal Growth and Development & Second Language Services.
  • Child and Youth Development and Parenting Support — Children’s Programs, Youth Programs, Parent/Caregiver Education and Support & Child Care Options.
  • Family Separation and Reunion — Deployment Information and family support if the CF member has to be away from the family.
  • Prevention, Support and Intervention — Assessment and Referral Programs including intervention and crisis services available to CF families.

Supports persons with developmental disabilities by promoting opportunities to lead their lives to the fullest in their community. Supports are (but not limited to): community and leisure activities, academics, volunteer placement and recreation. Individuals looking for employment will receive support on all aspects of job search including resume preparation, employment etiquette, job coaching and any other training specific to individual needs.

The Resources for Children with Disabilities (RDC) program provides support to families with a child who has a disability and to assist with some of the extraordinary demands resulting from the child's disability. Provides information and referal services as well as funding for a broad range of services based on individual disability related needs. This does not cover costs normally associated with raising a child.
