Stampede Downtown 2010
-
This year’s Stampede Downtown was loaded with fun and packed with funseekers! The food was great, and there was lots of it to sample. And how about that weather? Fantastically tailored to this event! Estimates put the crowd at over 1000 people taking in the festivities, all of whom we are certain had a good time. Thank you to everyone for coming out to kick off the 57th Annual Wainwright Stampede.
Competitive events in the festival included, Chili Cook-off, Obstacle Course Race, Bike Decorating Contest, and 4-on-4 Hockey. We did not have as many competitors as were anticipated so will be working hard to recruit more teams for next year. Organizers are already discussing next year’s festival so if you have suggestions or would like to help organize a competition be sure to get in touch with the Chamber.
In the Chili Cookoff, prizes were awarded for, hottest, mildest and tastiest, and teams were awarded for best costume and most enthusiasm. The winners, respectively were, Red Hot Chili Mamas, Chili Dogs and Royal LePage in the chili category, CSS All Stars and Canadian Crusaders in the presentation category.
The Bike Decorating Contest was judged in three categories, Best Boy’s Two Wheeler, Best Girl’s Two Wheeler and Best Three Wheeler, with all prizes awarded to one industrious family. Reese Way took away the Boy’s, Peyton Way, the Girl’s, and the Tricycle prize went to Makenna Way.
The Obstacle Course top prize was awarded to Wainwright Credit Union. The event proved a hit among the young people, so will get extra consideration to create adult and youth categories for next year.
4-on-4 Hockey had only entrants in the over 16 category. This event will be looked at closely during the coming year in the aim of better preparation and training time for all the teams.
Congratulations to all winners, and thank you to all teams for your enthusiastic participatition in this year’s competitions.
We would like to acknowledge the generous support received from all the sponsors for this event, including Wainwright Economic Development Board, Wainwright Harbor Hotel and Travel Alberta. Thank you to our partners, Parent Link Centre and Military Family Resource Centre.
4-on-4 Hockey was generously sponsored by, Ti-Ag Implements NEW HOLLAND Agriculture, Alberta Heath Services, Roy Pierce, T-Shirts Plus, West Coast Amusements and Star News (the EDGE). Thank you, and we hope we can count on your support in next year’s tournament.
Wainwright & District Chamber of Commerce wishes to thank all the people without whose energy and enthusiasism we could not have accomplished this event. Our volunteers are the cornerstone of this organization, and your support most gratefully appreciated.

On behalf of The Chamber of Commerce We would like to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors for the hard work and time they donated to the Trade Show. Nature rages but Trade Show & Sale goes on
-
Exhibitors and spectators braved the worst storm we had all winter to present and attend this year’s fair… True prairie spirit! It may have been blustery outside, but the warm atmosphere indoors made for a wonderful fair experience. Thank you to everyone for all your good cheer and enthusiasm. We intend to ride on this wave into next year’s Trade Show & Sale 2011.

The Chamber Bucks program is designed to promote “Shop Wainwright first”; their use ensures that your shopping dollars stay and benefit our community.
Anyone can purchase Chamber Bucks at the Chamber of Commerce office. They are sold in denominations of $10, $20, $25, $50 & $100. There is no cash value. Therefore, when spent, the entire value must be used, no change is given.
FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
-
What Can I Buy With Chamber Bucks?
Whatever you would like. They are redeemable by many local merchants for any goods and services they provide.
How do I know who redeems Chamber Bucks?
Ask where you shop. If the cashier or manager is not sure about the program they can contact the Chamber office at 780-842-4910. They will see how easy it is for them to participate, no registration, just acceptance.
How are Chamber Bucks redeemed?
Consumers:
Just present them as payment for your purchase. They are the same as a gift certificate. There is no cash value and no change is given, therefore, you have to use the full amount of the certificate for your purchase.Merchants:
Treat the Chamber Bucks as you would any gift certificate. Ensure that you fill out the back of the certificate completely. Create an invoice for the total value of Chamber Bucks that you are redeeming and send the invoice and the Chamber Bucks to the Chamber office for payment (the certificates must accompany the invoice). If your business does accept Chamber Bucks, please ensure that your cashiers are aware of the program so that there is no confusion with customers. Merchants, that are Chamber members, will receive a handling bonus as indicated on the back of the certificate. When do Chamber Bucks expire?
Under Alberta law any gift certificate that has been purchased (i.e. money was exchanged) cannot have an expiry date. Chamber Bucks do not have an expiry date.

Thirteen Things — Revisited
-
Some years back we re-published a 14-part article by Doug Griffiths, MLA (Battle River Wainwright Constituency). Along the way, links to this article have been inadvertantly removed, making it out of reach to readers unless they arrive from a search results page or a blog link. Here, then, is a restored link to the article, which remains as poignant today as it was when Doug first examined the scenario and parodied it in the work.
